Bedsores

Last updated on February 13, 2025

Bedsores can be very serious. Unfortunately, elderly nursing home residents are typically the ones who develop them. Bedsores are painful and result from putting too much pressure, for too long, on an area of the body that has a bone and a thin covering of flesh – such as the tailbone, heels, elbows and shoulder blades.

The law requires nursing homes to ensure that residents do not develop bedsores unless the resident’s medical conditions show that the bedsores are unavoidable. It is also important to note that the law requires the nursing home to prevent bedsores from progressing while the resident is staying there.
